Platte City, Missouri

 Last night on the road for this stretch of the trip and I’m very grateful because I’m tired. We covered 450 miles today and arrived in Platte City around 3:30 pm. We left Paducah very early in the rain and it rained for hours through Illinois. Once we were in St. Louis, the rain stopped a the sun and humidity let themselves be known!  Then on to Kansas City. Platte City is a suburb of Kansas City and very near the airport. 

On to the FF tomorrow. Abbey will bring Alene there tomorrow and leave shortly after I arrive.  This is when the fun will begin!

Wheel of Fortune Pat Sajak Oceanside I love this picture! Today was a great day! Any day putting my feet in the sand and ocean, a cool breeze in the air, the marine layer hovering above, with my friend of 45 years by my side, is a beautiful experience.  Everything that happened yesterday that made it a very tough day, was long forgotten and never spoken about.  We headed to Oceanside and walked in the sand and watched the surfers claim the perfect waves for their ride. The Funny Farm

 Arrived!  There’s a delay in posts to the blog because there’s no wi-fi here. I’ll do my best with this early in the morning. Also, I decided not to send out the link until I arrived. We got here Sunday late afternoon and Alene, Abbey and her friend Deena were waiting. Abbey and Deena left very early Monday morning for Alabama where Deena lives.  Abbey will fly back to Denver on the 18th. Alene looked very tired and a bit disheveled…she cried. We had dinner, visited and went to bed.  We were all up early Monday; Abbey and Deena left and Alene and I just talked and laughed until we decided to go into town (Ogalalla) for some groceries. The FF is 25 or so miles from town but we cross over the dam and it’s scary how low the water is. Also visible from the road is some of the damage that the tornado caused a couple weeks ago as well as damage from a recent hail storm. Memories

After nearly 6000 miles (when I reach home on Friday in NC), touching 12 states on my journey, an average of 30 MPG, dozens of mosquito bites, a dog attack, driving across the Mojave desert in July - twice, the scorched weeds and tumbleweeds, the oppressive heat wave, so much laughter, quite a few tears, multiple frustrating moments, endless upon endless repeated questions, my epiphany experiences, times of frustration for both Alene and I, traveling with my 12 year old pup, DanaRiley across the country, Alene’s child-like joy of life’s simple things, her moments of clarity, her clear memories of the past, getting to know Abbey better, spending time with her family, and staying with my friend in CA, and especially the heartbreaking goodbyes this morning, this will be my final post on this Funny Farm 2024 blog.
