7-11

Cousin Bernie, Alene and me

Today was a better drive; it wasn’t as hot and it was much prettier because we drove through gorgeous Utah. The La Quinta we stayed in last night in St. George was great. They had several grassy areas for dogs and the room was very nice as was the front desk clerk. DanaRiley and I were able to get a nice walk in this morning before it got too hot. We were on the road by 8:30 am. We made only 3 or 4 stops today, one was in Richfield where we stopped at Walmart and then at a park. I did stop at a 7-11 because it is 7/11 and free Slurpee day!  However, they only had gross flavors and the ones that turn your mouth different shades of green and purple.  So I passed and eventually found Alene one of her favorite drinks, frozen coke. Much better!

When we reached Green River, UT, I left a message for my cousin Bernie who lives in Grand Junction, our stop for the night. She met us at the hotel and visited with us for over an hour. That was very nice!

…or was it The Grand Canyon?  Alene kept getting confused thinking we were going to the Grand Canyon. I think she was disappointed when it stuck in her brain that it was Grand Junction. Of course, then she thought we were in Denver. It’s sometimes hard to keep up with her brain.

…and then there’s days like today where she was quite childlike. “Oh, look at that tree, and that one, that rock looks like a cloud, that cloud looks like a bear, are we going to the dinosaur museum, what time will we be there, oh, look at that tree, that rock is sooo big, etc. etc.

Last night and the shower debacle—I’m still not certain what happened but yes, we had water on the bathroom floor seeping into the room  I’ve tried to reserve “mobility accessible” rooms so she doesn’t have to ‘step into’ the shower and has bars to hold onto. This was one of those rooms. I think she had the shower spraying directly at the floor where the shower door meets the floor. It doesn’t make any difference now. No harm was done except she used every towel and wash cloth available to soak up the water. 🤪

Tonight’s shower experience was better.

The subject of getting a dog came up again when we saw a dog like her previous dog, Murphy, walking down the street in St George with its owners. She did think and say aloud on her own that Ducky, Michaela’s dog, may be very jealous and that maybe she should wait.

Alene wanted another sausage egg McMuffin for breakfast. She said that she’d had them before when Jerry, her husband, was alive and he really liked them. However, “they’re so much better now than they were back then”. Interesting. I’ll bet it’s on the menu tomorrow morning also.

Tomorrow's destination, the Funny Farm, where this madness began.
